In Greece, yachting developed mainly on the basis of the institutional framework of the professional yacht with the Law 438 of 1976 with its subsequent amendments. It developed with many mainly foreign clients , until the high period , in 2007 when it is estimated that professional tourist yachts were between 4,000-4,500 and were handled by more than 100 yacht brokerage agencies.

The sector of professional tourist boats, includes boats of various types (most of them sailing, mono-hull or catamaran) with accommodation capacity of 8-12 persons (4-6 cabins) and daily accommodation capacity depending on the size up to 25 persons (accommodation spaces).

Commercial yachts of up to 24 meters in length throughout Greece, today constitute the main volume of Marine Tourism, attracting a large number of tourists (mainly of higher income) from all over the world and Greece, who support economically a wide range of professional sectors, tour all coastal and island areas of the country and support local economies.
